DeepSeek desktop app v0.2 · Community Intel Mac build

DeepSeek now ships its own DeepSeek Harness Desktop app (v0.2) for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows x64. DeepSeek's download page lists Intel Macs as not supported, so Intel owners can use the community DSH Desktop build. There is no desktop installer for Linux; run the Web UI with npx instead.

Local DSH vs cloud agent

Keep DSH for local work. Run long and scheduled jobs in the cloud.

DeepSeek Harness runs on your computer, which is the right place for code and private files. Jobs that must run overnight, on a schedule or for a team need a machine that never sleeps.

Long tasks

Local DSH

Runs inside your local session. If the session crashes or the laptop sleeps, the run stops with it.

A 40-minute DSH task crashed at minute 39 (GitHub discussion #2564)

SpringBrand cloud agent

Runs on SpringBrand servers 24/7, so closing the laptop does not stop the job.

Schedules

Local DSH

Users schedule runs with an external cron job or a community plugin, and the computer has to be on at that time.

Before a community plugin, scheduling meant external cron (GitHub discussion #1600)

SpringBrand cloud agent

Built-in schedules: daily, weekly or at a set time.

Check from your phone

Local DSH

Remote access only works while your computer is online. In the community desktop app, a dropped phone session has to be scanned and approved again on the computer.

Phone remote sessions cannot reconnect after a drop (dataelement/dsh-desktop issue #179)

SpringBrand cloud agent

Open results in the browser on any device. Your computer can stay off.

Share with a team

Local DSH

Sessions and settings live in your own ~/.dsh folder.

SpringBrand cloud agent

Share runs and results with your team, or publish an agent to the marketplace.

Tools

Local DSH

The MCP servers and plugins you find, vet and configure yourself, one key per provider.

Users ask for review of third-party plugins for safety (GitHub discussion #1115)

SpringBrand cloud agent

One catalog of 861 APIs from 28 providers behind a single sign-in.

Cost

Local DSH

DSH itself is free and MIT-licensed. You pay your model provider for tokens and keep your computer running.

SpringBrand cloud agent

Starts with 300 free credits. Each run spends credits.

Developer preview

Before you upgrade DeepSeek Harness Desktop

DeepSeek labels the harness a developer preview with compatibility-breaking changes, and both desktop builds track pre-release dsh versions. Treat every update as a migration.

  1. 01

    Download only from the publisher

Use download.deepseek.com (via deepseek.com/harness) for DeepSeek's build and github.com/dataelement/dsh-desktop/releases for the community build, never a mirror.

  2. 02

    Read the bundled dsh version

Release notes name the bundled @deepseek-ai/dsh version. Check it before opening an existing workspace.

  3. 03

    Back up local state

Copy your profiles, plugins and sessions before moving between preview builds.

No installer needed

Run the DeepSeek Harness Web UI on Linux or any other machine

Linux and Windows ARM64 have no desktop installer, but DeepSeek's npm package runs the same harness in your browser. It needs Node.js and opens locally on port 3080.

  1. 01

    Install a current Node.js release

The Web UI runs through npx, so install Node.js first. The install guide lists a command for each operating system.

  2. 02

Run the command in a terminal

Start the official local Web UI.

    npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web
  3. 03

    Open the local address

Open http://127.0.0.1:3080 if the browser does not open automatically.

    http://127.0.0.1:3080
  4. 04

    Add a model provider

Add a model provider, then start in a disposable workspace.
