Agent skills questions
What is an agent skill?
A folder containing a SKILL.md file: YAML frontmatter with a name and a description, followed by instructions the agent follows when the skill runs. The agent reads the description to decide when to load the skill, and loads the full instructions only when it is used.
Do skills only work in one agent?
Skills follow a shared file format, but each host chooses where they live and how they are installed. Use the category and compatible-agent filters to find a task and check the requirements for Claude Code or OpenClaw on its detail page.
How is a skill different from an MCP server?
A skill is instructions and supporting files the agent reads. An MCP server is a running program that gives the agent tools to call. They combine well: a skill can tell an agent how to use the tools an MCP server provides.
