Agent Skills

Agent Skills

Skills are folders of instructions an agent loads when a task needs them. Browse them by the agent that runs them, then open a skill for its install command and what it tells the agent to do.

Updated

Agent skills are folders of instructions and scripts that an AI agent loads when a task matches them. This page groups skill guides by the agent that runs them, starting with Claude Code, and links the install guides for each supported agent, so you can add a skill and confirm it loads in a few steps.

Agent skills questions

These answers cover what an agent skill contains, where each agent looks for installed skills, and how skills differ from MCP servers. For step-by-step installation in a specific agent, open that agent's install guide; for what an individual skill does, open its page under the agent that runs it.

  • What is an agent skill?

A folder containing a SKILL.md file: YAML frontmatter with a name and a description, followed by instructions the agent follows when the skill runs. The agent reads the description to decide when to load the skill, and loads the full instructions only when it is used.

  • Do skills only work in one agent?

No. Claude Code skills follow the Agent Skills open standard published at agentskills.io, which other AI tools also support. Each host decides where skills are stored and how they are installed, which is why this directory groups skills by host.

  • How is a skill different from an MCP server?

A skill is instructions and supporting files the agent reads. An MCP server is a running program that gives the agent tools to call. They combine well: a skill can tell an agent how to use the tools an MCP server provides.
