What this skill helps with

OpenClaw’s Coding Agent skill coordinates background coding work through Codex, Claude Code or OpenCode. Its source covers substantial feature builds, reviews, refactors and issue-to-PR workflows, with explicit repository and worker preparation.

When to use it

Use it for a larger coding job that benefits from a dedicated worker. The source excludes simple edits, read-only lookups and work inside active OpenClaw state directories.

What to bring

Provide the target repository, trusted base reference, concrete task and acceptance checks. The runtime needs a supported coding CLI, the skill enabled and an appropriate isolated work area.

What to expect

Expect worker progress and a verified coding outcome with the relevant checks and final state. A worker stopping is not itself proof that a PR has landed. The example job board is illustrative.

How the skill works

Prepare the repository

Establish the canonical repository and intended base. Classify source trust and follow the appropriate isolation workflow before starting a worker.

Launch the appropriate worker

Choose the requested coding agent and its required execution mode. Keep the worker’s environment scoped to the task.

Monitor through completion

Capture a real notification route, monitor progress and verify the requested end state. Report failures or missing authority rather than inventing completion.

Coding Agent skill questions

Can it use different coding agents?

The published metadata and workflow cover Codex, Claude Code and OpenCode. Availability depends on the installed and authenticated tools.

Should every small edit use this skill?

No. The source reserves it for substantial background coding tasks and explicitly excludes simple edits and read-only code lookup.
