What this skill helps with

Anthropic’s Web App Testing skill provides a workflow for interacting with local web applications through Python Playwright. It covers functional checks, UI debugging, screenshot capture and browser-log inspection.

When to use it

Use it to verify a form, navigation flow or frontend change in a running local app. Its helper can manage one or more local servers when the application is not already running.

What to bring

Provide the local URL, startup commands, ports and the user flow to check. Include expected outcomes, target viewports and any test data that the flow requires.

What to expect

Expect a repeatable test script and observations from the rendered interface, with screenshots or logs where useful. The preview shows a sample test checklist, not an executed test report.

How the skill works

Choose the test setup

Distinguish static HTML from a dynamic app and check whether the required servers are already running. Use the provided server helper when appropriate.

Inspect the rendered state

Wait for the app to be ready, then inspect the actual DOM and screenshot before selecting elements. Do not guess dynamic selectors from an unloaded page.

Exercise and inspect

Run the specified flow with descriptive selectors and suitable waits. Capture relevant failures and close the browser when the test completes.

Web App Testing skill questions

Can it manage a frontend and backend together?

The source’s with_server.py helper supports multiple server commands and ports before running the Playwright script.

Does opening this page run tests?

No. It documents the skill and shows an illustrative workflow. Tests run in the user’s local development environment.
